More teams continue to chalk up wins in the University of Guyana (UG) Inter-Faculty Basketball Tournament, which continued yesterday with a game that saw the Faculty of Technology defeating UG’s staff team 56-53.
The teams in yesterday’s Inter-Faculty clash took to centre court at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, the tournament venue, once again on what was day four of the competition.
The Technology Staff match-up was a close encounter and went right down to the wire before Technology finally emerged victorious over their opponents in the closing minute of the game.
The scoring from both teams was often evenly matched throughout the game until some costly turnovers from Staff late in the game allowed Technology to get ahead after they took the ball to the basket in transition.
Staff’s Gerald Harry reeled his team back to the point where it was anybody’s game in the final minute, but some missed attempts at the hoop proved even more costly for Staff as they gave up many chances to tie or even win the game as the clock ticked away the final seconds.
Technology held on for the close win at the final buzzer, thanks to contributions from their lead scorers Clayton Reece who netted 17 points, Ryburn Weever 15 and Trevor Abraham 10 points.
Harry was the main contributor for Staff with a game high 19 points, while Gilbert Caleb scored 15 and Richard Braithwaite 13 in their team’s losing effort.
