Cabinet OKs contracts for NDIA, Amerindian communities

Cabinet at its statutory meeting on Tuesday offered its no objection to six contracts in the areas of agriculture, education, security and hinterland and infrastructural development, Head of the Presidential Secretariat, Dr. Roger Luncheon said Thursday.

According to a Govern-ment Information Agency release, Dr. Luncheon  told a post-Cabinet media briefing that the approved contracts are for Drainage and Irrigation (D&I) regarding the supply of spare parts for a Kobelco hydraulic excavator for the National Drainage and Irrigation Authority (NDIA) to the value of $21.8M;the procurement of spare parts for a Doosan hydraulic excavator for the NDIA ($15.07M); procurement of agricultural equipment for Amerindian communities in regions Seven and Nine ($36.04M); and construction of a teacher’s house at  Kamarang Primary School, Upper Mazaruni, Region Seven ($29.9M).

In addition, the green light was given for the purchase of tools and equipment for the Guyana Fire Service at a cost of $26.5M, and preparatory work for the four-lane access road to Timehri is valued at $20.9M, the release stated.
