Three men were yesterday granted $125,000 bail each by acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, on charges of receiving forged cheques and trying to obtain cash using them.
It is alleged that between March 5 and 16, Raschad Adel, Christopher Wayne, and Orvin Milton conspired to forge a Republic Bank cheque #2091582, property of Amernauth Muneshwer. It is also alleged that during the same time mentioned, Wayne and Adel each received Republic Bank cheques, which are reported to have been stolen. Milton was also charged with receiving 99 cheques, which appear to have been stolen, between March 5 and 16. The men pleaded not guilty to all the charges when they were read to them at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
George Thomas, who represented Adel and Wayne, in asking for bail, noted that the defendants had an unblemished record and that no money was handed over to them by the bank. He also said the men were from less fortunate families and requested bail be set in a reasonable sum.
After bail was granted, the matter was transferred to Court Two for March 22 for report and fixture.
