Dear Editor,
I refer to a letter in Stabroek News published on March 16, under the heading ‘Letter was a fabrication,’ written by Mr Sasenarine Singh. This letter was a response to my letter sent to all the newspapers but only published by the Guyana Chronicle on March 15.
I find it more than passing strange that the Stabroek News would publish a response to my letter but not my letter. Stabroek News loves to pride itself on being a member of the independent press and a bastion of journalistic propriety, but this is a most glaring illustration of journalistic unfairness and perhaps political bias. Mr Sasenarine Singh is an executive member of the AFC. Is the Stabroek News a protector of the AFC? Nothing is wrong with that. I suppose they have a right to do so, but they also have a responsibility to say so publicly and not to masquerade as an independent newspaper. I am sure that if similar allegations were made about a government/PPP official or PNCR functionary, those allegations would have been prominently published. The Kaieteur News has also failed to publish my letter but then again, their anti-government/PPP position is well known.
I challenge Mr Singh to take me to court. I have only disclosed a fraction of the story. The whole truth will be told to the court and the public if he sues.
Yours faithfully,
Fizal Ali
Editor’s note
Mr Ali’s original letter which we declined to publish was potentially libellous. We allowed Mr Singh to respond saying the allegations were a fabrication and he would sue, but nothing further.
We are not supporters or protectors of the AFC.
