Lions secure narrow lead over Windwards

ROSEAU, Dominica,  CMC – England Lions secured first innings points over Windward Islands on the second day of their Regional First Class Championship clash here yesterday, but the hosts hit back late to keep themselves in contention in the sixth round fixture.

Resuming at their overnight 280 for eight, the Lions were dismissed for 302 and the Windwards recovered from a rocky start to make 237.

In the eight overs available before the close at Windsor Park, the Lions lost Craig Kieswetter (9) to be 20 for one, 85 runs ahead overall.

After wrapping up the Lions’ innings swiftly, the Windwards plunged to 82 for four despite an opening stand of 39 between Tyrone Theophile (28) and Atticus Browne (21).

They then benefitted from two successive productive stands to push themselves beyond the 200-run mark.

Kevin James (49) and Dalton Polius (45) put on 79 for the fifth wicket before Polius and captain Lyndon James added a further 44 for the sixth wicket.
