More money: The Red Thread Organisation yesterday held a protest near Stabroek Market Square demanding “a living income for all mothers and care givers”. Red Thread member Joy Marcus told Stabroek News that earlier in the day there was a mothers’ meeting. She said the demonstration was planned because mothers are often forced to leave their children to work but it the long run, are paidvery little. She said when mothers are away from the home, they are often accused of neglect. The children are then sent to foster care and persons are paid to look after them. “Give them [the mothers] the money”, she said stressing that the world needs to recognise that mothers and caregivers are the backbone of this economy. Around 30 persons, some seen in this photo, stood silently in front of Demico House holding their placards as a truckload of heavily armed policemen looked on. (Photo by Zoisa Fraser)
