A building being constructed next to the Sparendaam burial ground is reportedly for a call centre and is due to be completed next month.
The two storey-building and its compound has attracted attention with some saying that it is being constructed on the reserve. Workers on the site yesterday said that that the land is owed by businessman, Omprakash ‘Buddy’ Shivraj and denied that the building was being constructed on the reserve. Stabroek News was told that Shivraj is constructing the building to be rented out to a provider of call-centre services.
The provider already has operations here.
The compound’s walls are very close to some tombs in the flooded cemetery. Construction started last month and is due to be completed next month, this newspaper was told.
