An Eccles man who admitted to driving without wearing his seat belt was fined $7,500 on Friday when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
Fazal Khayum pleaded guilty to the charge which stated that on March 17 on Camp and New Market streets, he drove motor car PMM 5354 without wearing his seatbelt.
The defendant told Magistrate Geeta Chandan Persid-Edmond when he appeared before her that he was sorry for committing the offence.
The prosecution then told the court that “the facts were as charged” after which no further details of what transpired on the day in question were given.
The magistrate subsequently ordered Khayum who resides at 221 Yubani Avenue, Eccles, East Bank Demerara to pay a fine of $7,500 or spend 20 days in prison.
