Dear Editor,
I am writing this in reference to the passing of our dear family member, Prampattie Ramsundar.
Prampattie was a highly pious, religious and moral woman. We noted that in your coverage of the nature of her death it was said that she was raped and murdered. On February 19, 2011, you mentioned that her autopsy showed her death was a result of “asphyxiation due to manual strangulation compounded by blunt trauma to the head.” However, you did not mention that rape was ruled out. The autopsy did indeed show that rape was not involved. We sincerely ask that you publish a clarification. We ask because Prampattie was a very modest woman, and especially with the terrible nature of her death, clarifying that no evidence of rape was apparent from her autopsy would preserve some semblance of her dignity.
Yours faithfully,
Valini Ramsundar Hsieh
Torrence Ramsundar
Editor’s note:
This newspaper did not say that Ms Ramsundar had been raped in any of its reports.
