Former national player Marlon Washington captured two categories but it was Steffan Barrow who carted off the prestigious men’s singles title when the Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) in conjunction with the Linden Table Tennis Association (LTTA)held its multi category tournament Sunday at the Linden Constabulary building.
Watched by Director of Sport Neil Kumar and presidents of the GTTA and LTTA Henry Greene and Lethem Wilson respectively Barrow defeated Dion Bacchus in straight games 11-9, 11-7, 11-5 in the final.
Third place went to Raynor `Copter’ Anderson who defeated Quincy Rice 9-11, 11-6, 11-8, 11-9.
In the women’s singles final Kimberly Whyte defeated Judy Gravesande-Noel in the final of the round robin competition with Karimah Sandiford and Shantelle Alleyne placing third and fourth respectively.
In the 10 years and under round robin final Hoshaiah Nicholson defeated Shedon Rose for the top spot while Keyshawn Fredericks took third and Shania Barrow, fourth.
The 13 years and under final was won by Dillon Johnson who defeated Denelson Rose 11-8, 11-4, 5-11, 12-10.
Third was Tyric McAllister who defeated Keigell Carroll 11-3, 11-6 and 12-10.
The 15 years and under final saw Keoma Crawford coming out victorious in a hard fought match over Isaiah Alphonso winning 8-11, 11-8, 11-5, 9-11, 11-4.
Third place went to Lloyd Williams who defeated Carl Adams 11-9, 11-3, 11-8.
The 18 years and under boys’ final saw Shavin Greene defeating Jermaine Grenville 14-12, 11-4,11-8 with Aubrey Paddy scoring a hard fought win over Allan Halley 11-7,8-11,14-12,7-11,11-7 for third place.
Washington came from behind to defeat Patrick Triumph 6-11, 2-11, 11-6, 11-9, 11-8 in the final while Bruce Murray took third defeating Anderson 11-6, 12-10, 11-7 in the Open Veteran competition.
Washington captured his second title of the night as he defeated Anderson 11-6, 11-7, 11-2 to win the Linden Veteran final while Lennox `Kowie’ Stephens defeated Howard James 11-7, 11-8, 10-12, 11-7 for third.
Special prizes were given to the most outstanding player Barrow and most improved player Alleyne while Washington received the fair play award. Anderson and Alleyne received GTTA president awards.
