Dear Editor,
As a concerned Guyanese living overseas I want to bring to your attention and also to that of the relevant authorities some things that I have observed while on one of my recent visits to Guyana.
I usually stay at my relative’s home in First Street, Eccles New Housing Scheme.
For years now there is a truck owner who owns several trucks, and much to the inconvenience of the residents, this man parks his trucks on both sides of the street. It is a known fact that this has caused the deterioration of the street and parapets. He is not a home owner; he only rents the house and residents’ complaints fall on deaf ears.
Next, there is a mechanical and wash bay business with same story; vehicles on the parapet blocking the street too, and excess water on the road.
Next there is another bottom house business – a grill and body work shop. In this residential area is it fair for the residents to have to endure this noise nuisance? If it is not the blowing of horns, it is hammering, pounding, welding, etc. Why did GPL connect commercial electricity to a residential zone area. Too many bottom-house businesses are creeping up and lawlessness is getting out of hand. There is no peace in this street any more. Not only do my relatives complain, but other people in the street also.
Is this going to be another Lombard Street? Let these people who want to conduct their bottom-house businesses find an area provided for this.
Yours faithfully,
(Name and address provided)
