A taxi driver was on Tuesday remanded to prison when he appeared before acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on a charge of robbery under arms to which he pleaded not guilty.
It is alleged that Leron Griffith of 3 Ketley Street, on March 19 at Georgetown, robbed Clarence Foster of jewellery and cell phones, valued at $600,000.
Griffith is also accused of robbing Samantha Foster at gunpoint of one shoulder bag valued $10,000, a digital camera, cash and one cell phone, amounting to $376,000.
Prosecuting, Police Corporal Vindetta Pindar stated that the virtual complainants were in their motor vehicle outside their home when the defendant approached along with another person and held the VCs at gunpoint. They took the said items along with the motor vehicle and made their escape.
A report was made and Griffith was later arrested and charged. Some items were found at his home.
Pindar asked that the defendant be remanded because of the seriousness and prevalence of the offence and she also asked that it be taken into consideration that a gun was used.
Magistrate Sewnarine-Beharry ordered statements for April 4 after remanding Griffith.
