GEORGETOWN, Guyana, CMC – Recent heavy rain have forced a change of venue for the final preliminary round match between Guyana and Trinidad & Tobago in the WICB Regional first-class championship, starting today. The match was scheduled to start today at the Albion Sports Complex just outside of the Berbician town of New Amsterdam.
But the recent inclement weather has affected work on the preparation of the pitch and outfield, and the match will now be contested at the Guyana National Stadium in Providence on the outskirts of the Guyanese capital.
Guyana dropped to the bottom of the points table on 16 points, following an eight-run defeat against Combined Campuses & Colleges in their sixth round match, which finished last Monday at the Three Ws Oval in Barbados. T&T are fourth on 40 points, after they conceded first innings points in a draw in their previous match against Jamaica, which also ended last Monday at Sabina Park in Kingston.
The Guyanese are the only team in the competition without a chance of qualifying for the semi-finals, but T&T will be looking to safeguard their place, after wobbling in their last two matches.
