Guyana’s Jessica Stephenson yesterday qualified for the final of the 200m breast stroke event at the CONSANAT Youth championships in Lima, Peru.
Competing on the final day of the championships Stephenson placed fourth in her preliminary heat of the 200m breaststroke, according to a press release from the Guyana Amateur Swimming Association (GASA).
Stephenson, swimming in the Girls Juvenile “B” group (i.e. Girls 15-17 age group), was scheduled to take part in the 200m breaststroke final later yesterday.
Stephenson had earlier finished fifth overall in the 100m breaststroke on Wednesday,
Going into the event with an entry time of 2:45.67s, Stephenson qualified for the event with a time of 2:46.06s.
She finished behind Brazilian Pamela Souza (2:44.00s) and Sebastian (2:43.78s) and Mijal Asis (2:39.51s) of Argentina. Prior to yesterday’s performance, Stephenson had opened her participation at the event in the 100m breaststroke when the championships began on Wednesday.
In that event Stephenson had recorded a personal best (PB) time of 1:15.28s in the preliminary heats while she placed fifth overall in the event with a time of 1:15.30s.
This race was also dominated by Argentina with Sebastian winning in 1:12.71s and Asis placing second in 1:12.88s.
Stephenson is Guyana’s lone representative at the championships.
