Businessman Shiv Nandalall was yesterday elected president of the Guyana Chess Federation (GCF) when the body held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) at the Carifesta Sports Complex, Carifesta Avenue.
According to Irshad Mohammed, Nandalall was elected unopposed by an electorate of approximately 15 voters.
All the other executive positions were also uncontested, Mohammed said.
Mohammed was re-elected to the position of Tournament Director in addition to taking up the post of Vice-President.
Vishnu Rampersaud retained his position as Secretary while previous Vice President Omar Shariff was elected Treasurer.
The three committee members are Rashad Hussain, Sue-Hai Feng and Dennis Dillon.
Outgoing president Errol Tiwari, was not present at the meeting. He is said to be recovering from an illness.
The customary president’s report was read by Nandalall. Speaking with Stabroek Sport yesterday Nandalall said it was his avid interest to see the development of chess that led him to take up the position.
Nandalall said his foremost goal is to promote the game throughout the country, particularly among youths.
As it pertains to mapping out the strategies to tackle the goals Nandalall says those strategies will be decided when the executive next meets.
