Guyanese players continued to make the headlines in Trinidad and Tobago with their exploits in the top league.
Opener Homchand Pooran is fast becoming the most consistent player at Clarke Road United. On the weekend he got 68 against Clico Preysal. In a match where Jamaican Krishmar Santokie was making his debut for First Citizens Clarke Road against Preysal, Pooran was the man to watch. Windward Islander Fernix Thomas scored 40 to lead Preysal to 224 all out with Santokie taking 2/43. Clarke Road then responded with 266 all out as Pooran slammed 68. Preysal, batting again, scored 100/9 with Santokie taking 3/32. In central, the Guyanese continued to dominate, as they gave Moosai Sports first innings points against Wanderers.
Moosai, batting first, made 213 all out with Royston Crandon scoring 64 and Mahendra Nagamootoo 19. Wanderers in reply made 202 with Nagamootoo scalping 4/52. Batting again, Moosai ended on 92 for five but not before Guyanese Neil Williams stroked 53.
Meanwhile, Barbadian Dwayne Smith continued his impressive form taking another five wickets for his club Queen’s Park against T&TEC. Smith grabbed 5/39 to help bowl out T&TEC for 128 in reply to Queen’s Park’s 197 all out. Rain badly affected the game on the final day, as QPCC reached 82 for two declared when the game was called off as a draw.
Fellow Barbadian Ashley Nurse was also among the wickets for his club Ceramic Merryboys. Playing against two-time defending champions PowerGen, Nurse grabbed 3/38, as they made only 161. However, T&T leg-spinner Samuel Badree took 4/16 to help bowl out Merryboys for 99. Batting a second time PowerGen closed on 156 all out and the game ended in a draw. Staying in central, Barbadian Javon Searles had a good game for Alescon Comets against SIS Central Sports. Searles scored 38 in Comets score of 247 all out and then returned to score 40 in their second innings of 150/7 declared. Central Sports made 171 in their first innings and 106 for one in their second.
