The inaugural Len’s Craft Optical/Sunburst Orange Juice Under-15 League finally got underway over the week end at the Georgetown Football Club ground after being delayed for two weekends due to inclement weather.
Santos got past Flamingo in a nailing biting showdown that ended 3-2; BK International Western Tigers gained a walkover from Houston Stars; Fruta Conquerors played to a draw with Renaissance while Sunburst Camptown and GFC battled to a stalemate.
In the Santos/Flamingo match, Santos drew first blood as early as the 11th minute when Jerome Liddell was successful.
They then doubled the lead four minutes later through a Travis Fitzpatrick strike that found the back of the net.
At the half way point Santos still led by two goals but Flamingo began playing with more flair to put Santos under some pressure and force a defense error which toggled the score line to 2 – 1.
Flamingo kept pressing on with the hope of equalizing the one possession match and soon did so when Duane Johnson pulled one back for Flamingo in the 36th minute.
Santos eventually regained the lead to emerge victorious.
In the opening game of the tournament, Sunburst Camptown and GFC battled to a goalless draw.
The competition will continue on Saturday with four more matches at the same venue where Pele challenges Houston Stars from 8:00hours, Sunburst Camptown will battle BK International Western Tigers at 09:15hours, Riddim Squad come up against Flamingo from 10:30hours and Santos clash with Renaissance in the feature.
