At the Springlands Court on Monday, Magistrate Krishndat Persaud remanded two men to prison when they appeared before him charged with possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.
Reports are that last Wednesday, Errol Bristol, 39, of 44 Savannah Park Housing Scheme, New Amsterdam and Dennis Martobikromo, 33, of Nickerie, Suriname were caught with one kilogramme of cocaine and 220 grammes of marijuana.
Police Prosecutor, Inspector William Henry told the court that the men were arrested during a roadblock around 11.30 pm at Springlands, Corriverton.
He said that police stopped the New Amsterdam-based taxi in the vicinity of the Guyana/Suriname backtrack route. A search was conducted and the drugs were discovered among the men’s belongings.
They were arrested and taken into custody at the Springlands Police Station where the items were inspected and weighed. They are scheduled to return to court on April 8.
Meanwhile, police subsequently conducted a raid on Bristol’s home and unearthed 10 12-gauge cartridges and arrested three persons who were there at the time.
