Linden resident Ruel Williams emerged top student of the three-day Beginners Football Referees Course held last weekend at Carifesta Sports Complex, organized by the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) and the Guyana Football Referees Council (GFRC).
Twenty-two participants were successful at the course that included both theoretical and practical sessions.
Course Coordinator Roy Mc Arthur said the programme attracted participants from Linden, Berbice, Georgetown, East Coast Demerara and East Bank Demerara. Mc Arthur, who is the national referees’ coordinator, said the course had laid the foundation for another group of referees to be added to the current batch of match officials. Other instructors included Lawrence “Sparrow” Griffith, Ingram Johnson, Stanley Lancaster and Otis James.The beginners course came on the heels of the Schools Referees course, which attracted 23 participants and ended last Thursday at Ministry of Education ground on Carifesta Avenue.
The successful participants were Williams, Jonel Dover, Vere Watts, Quincy Warde, Renal Thom, Wilon Caleb, Kelvin Lewis, Dale Kowley, Junior Bobb, Kellon Reid, Sinend Spencer, Travon Datson, Alisha Fortune, Neisa Allen, Shannah Thornhill, Andre Beresford, Sheldon Bobb, Wayne St Jules, Rollex Scott, Keith Roberts, Anson Ambrose and John Maikoo.
