On Sunday the Ryan Crawford Memorial Turf Club and Sports Facilities (RCMTC&SF) horse race meet will get underway from 13:00 hours at the club’s Alness, Corentyne, race track.
Some of the country’s top horses are expected to compete and pundits are already anticipating a high level of competition. Over 65 horses have already been registered for the event.
According to a release from the RCMTC&SF organization, the track is in perfect condition despite the rains. “Considered one of the better tracks in the country the authorities stated that the track has dried out nicely and is in tip top shape with a lot of fast times anticipated,” the release added.
Eight races are listed on the day’s cards with the C and Lower event, sponsored by Beverage Giants Banks DIH Limited over 1,500m being the feature event, with a first prize of $450,000 and a trophy.
The E and Lower race, which will be run over 1,400m, also has one of the day’s top billings with the top prize going at $260,000 and a trophy.
The race for the three-year olds Guyana and West Indies bred horses over 1,500m fetches a top prize of $220,000 and a trophy. The locally bred three-year-old horses in the G and Lower will be competing over 1,400m for the $200,000 winner’s bacon and a trophy.
The H and Lower, I-2 and Lower and the J, K & L races, which will be run over a distance of 1,400m, will carry winnings of $150,000, $120,000 and $100,000 and a trophy respectively.
The champion jockey and runners-up, along with top stables and trainers, will be presented with memorabilia and trophies, compliments of businessman Ramesh Sunich of the Trophy Stall, Bourda Market and the RCMTC&SF.
Some of the horses that have already been registered are: The Message, Pegasus Rising, Peaceful, Better than Gold, Prince Charming, Fairy Landing, Monzelle, Night Crescendo, Celebration Time, Dubai Duchess, Savion, El Gato, Pyro Flo, Zebra, Diplomat, Fresh Prospect, Pinky, Black Beauty, Irish Girl and Funny Side.
