Cabinet has approved a contract for the rehabilitation of the medical block at the West Demerara Regional Hospital.
The hospital has been described as” an occupational safety and health hazard” by some staff members who recently protested the working conditions, which included rotten floorboards and leaky roofs.
Head of the Presidential Secretariat Dr. Roger Luncheon reported at his weekly post-Cabinet briefing that a $21.6M contract was cleared for works at the hospital.
Two additional contracts were approved for the health sector for the supply and delivery of four chemistry analyzers at the tune of $23.18M, and a $16.8M contract for the supply and delivery of four hematology analyzers. Dr. Luncheon explained that the equipment to be procured for both contracts have to do with testing blood.
The HPS said too that three contracts were cleared in local government, including a contract for $18.9M for the construction of a bridge and revetment from Oronoque community to Port Kaituma waterfront in Region One.
A dormitory is to be constructed for Port Kaituma Secondary School at $18.1M dollars and additionally, Cabinet green-lit a contract for the provision of dietary supplies for the dorm at Waramadong Secondary in Region Seven to the tune of $12.3M monthly for the school year.
Further, Luncheon said government has approved a $25M contract for the purchase of cameras and camcorders with accessories for the National Communication Network (NCN).
