President Bharrat Jagdeo told the Matthews Ridge community that a bus will be provided to take children to school.
He made a commitment to providing the bus during a visit to the area by the President last week Tuesday, when residents spoke about the challenges children in the community face attending school. He, however, urged them to ensure that the transportation is utilised for the benefit of the children and tasked the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) to oversee the operation.
According to a Government Information Agency (GINA) press release, residents also noted a number of spin-off benefits the community has gained from the advances in the education system. They lauded the school feeding programme and the local and overseas scholarships that have been made available to the community’s top achievers.
Meanwhile, Jagdeo also promised support to revive the community’s skills training centre. He said he was compelled to revive the centre, while noting that it is important to the youths in Matthews Ridge, especially with the high prospect of reviving manganese operations.
