Commissioner of the Guyana Geology and Mines Com-mission (GGMC) William Woolford has retired effective yesterday and Manager of the entity’s Environmental Division Karen Livan is now the acting commissioner.
A press release from the Office of the Prime Minister last night announcing the changes said that applications would be invited from within and outside the GGMC for consideration in filling the position.
According to the press release, a retirement function in honour of Woolford was held at the GGMC head office on Wednesday. Prime Minister Sam Hinds, who has responsibility for mining; recent past chairman of the GGMC board Ronald Webster and its current Chairman Major General (rtd) Joe Singh spoke highly of Woolford’s “36 years of able and dedicated service to the GGMC, the mining sector and… Guyana,” the release added.
