Police have detained two seamen for questioning after their boat captain mysteriously disappeared from the vessel they were in early yesterday morning in the vicinity of the Unity, Mahaica foreshore.
The decomposing remains of Hemchandra Debi, 41 of Unity, Mahaica later washed up at the Lusignan foreshore. The body is at the Lyken’s Funeral Home awaiting a post mortem examination.
Police said in a press release yesterday that they are investigating a report they had received that at about 0200 hours on Friday Debi was found missing from his boat by two other crew members while the vessel was in the Atlantic Ocean.
Initial investigations revealed that Debi was operating the boat while the other two crew members were in the cabin. After they found that the boat was out of control in the water they checked for Debi but could not locate him.
The two crew members were detained by the police and a search was then launched for the missing man.
