Workers from the Ministry of Works yesterday appeared in front of the Canadian High Commission with instructions to break down two pillars for a new security hut that had recently been constructed in front of the compound. Only one of the pillars was removed before the exercise was halted. An official from inside the compound stated briefly that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs had been contacted and was working towards a solution. When asked if permission had been granted for the erection of the pillars, the official responded that it was the architect’s responsibility to obtain the requisite permits. In the photo above, the surviving pillar can just be glimpsed behind the dragline. (Photo by Tiffny Rhodius)
