Fairy Landing of the Sherriff Stable upset a top notch field to win the feature C class race when the Ryan Crawford Memorial Turf Club and Sports Facilities held its horse race meet at the club’s Alness track, Corentyne, Berbice.
Ridden by Colin Ross, the horse took the lead early and maintained a steady pace ahead of the chasing pack which included top runners The Message, Night Crescendo, Prince Charming, Miss Orientate, Pinch D Cash and Marathon Man. When the horses hit the final turn for home The Message and Night Crescendo made their move to challenge Fairy Landing.
However, there was too much work to do as Fairy Landing accelerated and safely took the $450,000 top prize and the Metro Office Supplies trophy. The Message came in second ahead of Night Crescendo and Pinch D Cash in the 1500m race.
Fresh Prospect of the Jagdeo Stable won the E and Lower 1400m event, beating Gap, Got to Go and Peaceful by a long distance to cart off the $260,000 bacon and the Alim Shaw trophy.
On the other hand, the three-year-old contest for horses born and bred in Guyana and the West Indies was once again taken by Irish Girl of the Lenny Singh Stable with Krishna Singh in the stirrups. After leading the race from gate to pole Singh took away $220,000 and the Rakesh Beer Garden trophy; Sabrina’s Joy, Spanish Love and Face the Fire rounded out the money.
Super Cat of the Rommel Jagroop Stable was unstoppable, winning the three-year-old event for Guyana bred horses and $200,000 and the Norman Singh Memorial trophy. Super Cat showed its superiority in a gate to pole win to beat out top contenders Wicked Intention, Royal Salute and Apostle in another 1400m race.
Got to Go was in winners row in the G class 1400m event. The win was worth $200,000 and the Ivan Dipnarine trophy, while Pegasus Rising, Stormy Lass and South Sea were the other horses in the money.
Elcock Stable’s Celebration Time, which was mounted by Andlon Findley, trampled its opponent’s with another gate to pole win in the H class 1400m event, receiving the $150,000 and the Meditron Scientific Sales trophy. Dream Girl, Savion and Sun Raiser could not stop the celebration.
Mona Lisa of the Crawford Stable, with Winston Apadhu in control, won the I-2 1400m event ahead of Diplomat, Sun Raiser and Pinky, for the $120,000 winner’s purse and the Jumbo Jet trophy.
Bounty Flyer of the Pompey Stable rode away with the JKL class 1400M race, $100,000 and the John Ali trophy from Beyonce, Silver Kid and Dutty Dance.
Meanwhile, Ross was declared the top jockey with Jumbo Jet being the top stable. They received accolades, compliments of the Ryan Crawford Memorial Turf Club & Sports Facilities and the Trophy Stall of Bourda Market.
Over 80 horses participated in the day’s activities which had close to $4M in cash, trophies and other incentives available.
