34 Agricola/McDoom youths complete skills training

Thirty-four youths from the Agricola/ McDoom area graduated recently after acquiring various skills through the Community Action Component (CAC) of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) funded Citizens’ Security Programme.

The youths were exposed to both practical and theoretical training in skills such as garment construction, welding, and cosmetology for six months, the Government Information Agency (GINA) said in a release.

At the graduation at the St. Ann’s Primary School at Agricola, Bishop Juan Edghill, who is a board member of the CSP, urged the youths to develop the right approach to deal with the challenges that will emerge as they venture out to market themselves in the various areas of specialization. He also advised that “attitude decides altitude.”

Programmes of a  similar nature are carried out by the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Sport, Guyana Police Force, Ministries of Labour, Human Services and Finance, and the Guyana Defence Force  and are being held throughout the country.

Community Action Specialist Roseanne Purnwasie also called on the youths to use their newly-acquired skills to positively enhance their lives.

The programme is targeting 1,400 youths before December this year, the release concluded.
