DUBAI, United Arab Emirates, CMC – Hard-hitting opener Chris Gayle is the only West Indies player in the top 20 of the ICC One-Day International rankings released on Monday.
The left-handed Gayle was pencilled in at 15th, dropping two places following a lacklustre World Cup where he managed just 170 runs from five innings.
West Indies reached the quarter-finals of the competition before bowing out at the hands of Pakistan.
Veteran left-hander Shivnarine Chanderpaul is the only other player in the top 30 at number 21 while fellow Guyanese Ramnaresh Sarwan lies 35th.
South Africa’s Hashim Amla remains top of the rankings followed by Proteas teammate AB de Villiers.
In the bowlers’ rankings, meanwhile, not a single West Indies player features in the top 20.
In fact, the highest ranked player is captain Darren Sammy who is 37th, while medium pacer Dwayne Bravo (38th) and left-arm spinner Sulieman Benn (39th) follow closely.
New Zealand captain and left-arm spinner Daniel Vettori heads the bowlers’ rankings with Zimbabwe left-arm spinner Ray Price second.
