KARACHI, Pakistan, CMC – Pakistan batting legend Javed Miandad has been asked to work with the national side’s batsmen ahead of the tour of the West Indies.
The move comes following a meeting between selectors and team management, to discuss the squad for the Caribbean campaign that includes two Tests, five One-Day Internationals and a Twenty20 International.
However, Miandad said he was unsure about taking up in the role in time for the tour which bowls off April 18.
“I am always available to work with our players. I will be able to focus full-time on this job in a few months time,” Miandad was quoted as saying.
“I have not decided on the tour as yet.”
Talismanic one-day captain Shahid Afridi, who led the side to the semi-finals at the just concluded World Cup, strongly endorsed Miandad for the role.
He had earlier lamented his side’s batting after no player surpassed 300 runs for the tournament.
“I think Javed Miandad is the best possible choice to be our batting coach,” Afridi said.
“Our batting inconsistency has been a source of concern for us since last year and when you have a problem with a particular subject you go to the best teacher of that subject.”
Miandad scored 8832 runs from 124 Tests in an international career spanning 21 years, and remains the country’s leading run-scorer.
