Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry yesterday remanded a man accused of robbing a woman at gunpoint while she was sitting in her car.
It is alleged that Randy Morris, being armed with a gun, robbed Suely Da Coucericos Silver Messias of $100,000, a wrist watch, a pair of sunglasses, a pair of tested glasses, a handbag, a cellular phone, a health card and three credit cards, amounting to a total of $424,000. It was alleged that he committed the robbery on March 30 at Georgetown.
Morris was not required to plead to the indictable charge of robbery under arms when it was read to him at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
Police Corporal Venetta Pindar told the court that the virtual complainant was sitting in her car waiting for her husband when Morris opened the door and attempted to snatch her bag. The woman held on to her bag but Morris then allegedly pointed a gun at her, took the bag and made good his escape. He was later identified and arrested.
In his bail application, Morris’s attorney said his client was put on two identification parades but was not identified. The magistrate nevertheless refused bail and ordered him to return to court on Tuesday.
