The hard hitting Kurt Bess will have a crack at the newly-commissioned cruiserweight title of Guyana when he fights Barbados-based Guyanese Cleveland Fraser at the Mackenzie Sports Club ground on April 25.
Bess, who scored the second fastest knockout of the Pro-Am Friday Night Fights, is returning to the ring after a devastating win over Anthony Augustin in February. The chiseled orthodox fighter will also be looking to better his record of three wins and four losses against Fraser, whose record stands at four and two. The feature bout will go for 12 rounds.
Fraser was represented by his manager Rafael Jonas and did not attend the signing of contracts on Tuesday because he was training. Jonas assured media workers though that his fighter will be in the country before fight night.
On the other hand, in what is expected to be another intense matchup, hometown girl Sharon Warde will go up against Pauline London in the lone female professional bout.
The Easter Monday bouts will be in tandem with the Linden Town Week events.
London, with eight wins and a similar number of losses, agreed with Warde that they will not disappoint the fans. With London initiating the trash talking, she stated that “this time around it’s me and you, I will let you feel my punches this time when I brace you in a corner and put you down in your hometown.
“You might not even make it to the fourth round,” she boasted while driving her right fist into her left palm to underscore her statement.
Warde in her reply stated “I heard that cock crow a lot, in the ring and on the streets is me, so bring it on girl, I’ll be waiting. “All she does do is talk, what she needs to do is bring it in the ring,” she added.
Cassius Matthews (3-5-1) made his return after a seven-year absence from the sport with a loss to Simeon Hardy on the last fight night card but he promises a different outcome this time around as he faces Shawn Pile (4-4-0).
“The last match was different because he had more weight than me, this time round it’s my weight class and I will handle it,” Matthews stated.
When asked by Stabroek Sport if he is going all out to revenge his loss, he replied, “it’s nothing like that but I’m going for the win.”
Meanwhile the night will also see Edmond Declou (4-2-1) going up against Winston Pompey (4-6-2) in a rematch after their first meeting ended in a controversial draw.
The Fight Night card was set for Linden to promote the sport in the mining town during its annual Linden Town Week and a major crowd is expected.
