Classes at the Novar Primary School in Mahaicony were briefly interrupted yesterday after two students had to be restrained following “supernatural” experiences close to the school’s sanitary block.
According to reports, ever since the school’s administration dismantled an unused wooden toilet close to a newly constructed sanitary block three weeks ago, several students in the ‘secondary top’ section of the school have fallen ill.
Persons at the school told this newspaper yesterday that around lunchtime, a fourth form student had been burning garbage at the dump which was built over the spot where the wooden pit latrine once stood and moments later, “he just start get stiff and shake.”
One of the boy’s colleagues noted that the student fell on the floor of the upper flat and ran through sections of the building before being restrained.
The student was taken to the Mahaicony Hospital accompanied by his parents. He was treated and sent away. Another student reportedly encountered similar experiences at the school yesterday and he too had to be restrained.
Stabroek News was told that about two weeks ago the student who dismantled the small wooden toilet began acting hysterically and had to be rushed to the hospital after he sustained cuts to his hands after “cuffing” the windows at the school.
Persons at the school said that the student reported that he was feeling unwell after dismantling the toilet and later complained that he was “seeing things.”
The matter was reported to the Ministry of Education, this newspaper was told.
