(Jamaica Observer) The two members of the Royal Barbados Police Force who are accused in the rape and sexual assault of a 27-year-old Jamaican woman have been formally charged.
They have been identified as constable Jonathan Barrow, 32, of Pasture Road, Haggatt Hall, St Michael and woman constable 25-year-old Melanie Denny of No 40 Golden Mile, St Peter.
Barrow is charged with serious indecency while Denny is charged with aiding and abetting Barrow to commit an act of serious indecency on the woman.
Both were charged last night and appeared in the District ‘A” Magistrate’s Court this morning. They are expected to reappear in court on September 1. Both granted bail in the sum of B$5,000.
The complainant in the matter said Denny let two policemen inside the cell she occupied at the Central Police station in Bridgetown, Barbados after she was held with marijuana in her luggage at the Grantley Adams International Airport in late February.
She said Barrow forced her to perform oral sex on him while she claims the other male cop who has not yet been identified, raped her.
Barrow and Denny were pointed out during separate identification parades last week.
The complainant is currently serving a 15-month sentence at the Dodds penal facility in St Phillip.
