Trophy Stall XI is set to defend their title as the second edition of the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph (GT&T) 10/10 Softball Cricket Competition enters into its quarterfinal stage tomorrow at the Everest Cricket Ground from 09:30hrs
Ramish Sunich, manager of both the Trophy Stall XI and the Trophy Stall Angels who also have a spot in the female version of the quarterfinals weighed in on the performance of his male troops. “Well so far in the tournament I see them playing as the defendingchampions and have no reason to believe that they won’t win.
“We have two easy matches before the finals and some of the guys have gotten the week off to prepare for the matches so I think we’ll do well,” he added.
Meanwhile Amrit Jairam, captain of last year’s quarterfinalist team Wolf Warriors told Stabroek Sport via telephone, “We feel like we could win the competition for sure this year, we train every afternoon after work and are hoping to make a difference this time around.”
On the distaff side of things Trophy Stall Angels captained by Susheelah Awad who will have strong support from two players in the female West Indian cricket team, June Ogle-Thomas and Tremayne Smartt, told Stabroek Sport, “well it feels great to be in the quarterfinals, we got to win this tournament so it’s in our heads.
“I’m also 99% sure we will win, I can’t say 100% because mistakes do happen, but we will win,” she added.
However, captain of the Berbice Allstars, Shenella Mceean via telephone told Stabroek Sport of her team’s chance in the remaining stages, “presently now the team feels great, we have been doing a lot of practice but we have to work on our bowling.
“I also think we can win, we have good team spirit and any team that has team spirit can always win a game,” she added. Meanwhile as the GT&T team will be at the Everest Ground to make sure that fans walk away with prizes, the tournament will come to a grand finale at the Guyana National Stadium the following day in what is expected to be a day of entertaining cricket for all ages.
