PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC – There still has been no word on if Trinidad and Tobago will pursue legal action following their controversial Regional First Class Championship semi-final against Jamaica which ended Monday.
On Tuesday night, national players and the T&T Cricket Board executive met to discuss the possibility of legal action but no announcement has been made by cricket authorities here.
Team manager Omar Khan had said Monday that T&T would pursue legal advice after Jamaica qualified for this weekend’s Final, following a no-decision in the semi-final at the Sir Frank Worrell Ground.
TTCB president Azim Bassarath said he had written the WICB for clarification on the matter and the regional governing body confirmed Jamaica would meet Combined Campuses and Colleges in the final starting Friday in Barbados.
The controversy arose after Jamaica, winning the toss and batting, amassed 664 after batting past lunch on the third day of the match. T&T could only muster 448 for nine in reply.
Under the WICB tournament rules, in cases of a no-decision in a semi-final the head-to-head meeting during the preliminary round would be used to determine who advanced to the final.
Jamaica took first innings points over T&T when they met at Sabina Park last month.
Khan contended the rule was unfair, noting the fact T&T finished second overall in the standings on 52 points while Jamaica were fourth on 51, should have featured in the ruling.
