A mason was yesterday sentenced to three months in jail after admitting that he stole a nursery school teacher’s cellular phone.
Joel Jordan, 26, of Durban Street, Lodge admitted to the larceny charge when it was read to him by acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court. According to the facts on the case, Jordan, on March 22 at South Road, Bourda, stole a Motorola cellular phone valued at $35,000, the property of Marlene Williams.
In presenting the prosecution’s facts, Police Corporal Venetta Pindar stated that the Virtual Complainant is a teacher attached to the South Road Nursery School. She told the court that on the day in question, Jordan entered the school and asked Williams about enrolling his child.
Williams told him that he had to ask the Head Mistress (HM), and she subsequently left to fetch the HM, leaving her phone. When she returned, she found that both her phone and Jordan were missing and upon enquiring from her pupils, she was told that the “gentleman” took it.
The matter was reported to the police and Jordan was arrested and told of the allegation against him. He reportedly confessed and was subsequently charged.
When asked by the magistrate what he did with the phone, Jordan responded that he lost it. The three months sentence was then handed down to him.
