The Schools Scotia Bank/Pepsi Football Academy will be officially opened this morning from 9am
with a March Past of participating teams, at the Carifesta Sports Complex on Carifesta Avenue.
Some seven schools namely Queen’s College, Tucville Secondary, Lodge, Christ Church, St. George’s, Tutorial High, East Ruimveldt and North Georgetown are set to participate in the competition.
Minister of Education Shaik Baksh will deliver the feature address while Minister of Sport, Dr. Frank Anthony and Director of Sport, Neil Kumar, are also expected to be in attendance along with Scotia Bank Marketing Manager, Jennifer Cipriani-Nelson and Pepsi Brand Manager, Marlon Gravesande.
The academy is the brainchild of the Guyana Sports Development Foundation (GSDF) and some members of this body along with Guyana Football Federation President Colin Klass and teachers and students of representative schools are all expected to attend the opening ceremony.
The schools have been equipped with gears from the sponsors and alumni associations overseas, while they also participated in a period of preliminary preparation in officiating and skills training.
