In an interesting turn of events the Georgetown Football Association (GFA) and Upper Demerara Football Association (UDFA) are to receive constitutional rights from the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) pending the submission of certain documents.
Stabroek Sport yesterday learnt that the lifeline was granted to the two affiliates following a meeting with representatives of the two sub associations and president of the GFF Colin Klass at the Pegasus Hotel.
Stabroek Sport learnt that the GFA and UDFA have to submit their constitutions, audited financial reports for 2010, lists of executive members, lists of registered players, banks statements, calendars of events for 2011 and the Minutes of their last Annual General Meeting to the executive committee of the GFF.
Following the receipt of those documents, it was learnt that the bodies will be granted their full constitutional rights.
It is not yet clear whether the sub associations will be able to vote at the April 16 polls or whether the elections will still go ahead as planned since the GFF executive committee will have to call an extraordinary meeting to determine the date, time and date of the congress.
According to information reaching Stabroek Sport, the meeting was a fruitful one and the agreed position is a shot in the arm for the ensuing development of the sport.
