The inaugural Len’s Craft Optical/Sunburst Orange Juice Under-15 tournament continued last Friday at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground with wins for Pele and Flamingo football clubs.
The architect of Pele’s 4-1 triumph over the Georgetown Football Club was forward Kevin Andrews who scored a double. In the second game of the double header, Flamingo eased past Fruta Conquerors 3-1.
And, in a key encounter, Santos fought back from being down a goal against Riddim Squad to earn an equal share of the points after a 1-1 stalemate.
Pele’s clash with GFC was their first game of the tournament after they were awarded full points from Houston Stars who failed to show up for their encounters of the preceding match days.Andrews opened the scoring following some good work in the middle but GFC, enjoying home advantage, did not allow Pele to enjoy the lead for too long as they responded through a well taken shot from Shamar Barrow who dribbled past the defenders of the right side of goal to score. His powerful shot sailed across goalkeeper Rashawn Hicks and rushed into the back of the net at the far post.
The exchanges continued but it was Pele, with daft and crisp touches that controlled proceedings even though GFC created some opportunities of their own.
The nippy Andrews scored in the 22 minute once more handing his team the advantage and the half ended with the score 2-1 in favour of Pele.
Heading into the second half, Pele blasted in two more goals to seal the win and full points.Brazilian Jerry Da Silva, who made some enterprising runs down the flanks, finally breached the GFC defence six minutes after the break, while Romallo Fraser put the game out of GFC’s reach when he scored Pele’s fourth goal.
The second game of the morning saw Riddim Squad, which had lost to Flamingo the previous Saturday almost scoring an upset win over Santos.
Riddin Squad found very good rhythm which enabled them to match Santos play for play to the extent that the first half failed to produce any goals.
But 42 minutes into the clash, Kester Joseph broke the deadlock to hand Riddim Squad the advantage.
As the minutes ticked away towards the end of the game, it looked like Riddim Squad was destined for the upset win but with two minutes to full time, the magic equalizer for Santos came off the boot of Travis Fitzpatrick.
The opening game saw Flamingo gaining a 3-1 win over Fruta Conquerors.
Shots from Andre Webber in the 20th minute, Colin Waterman two minutes later and Dapper Johnson five minutes into the second half were all on target for Flamingo, who now occupy the second position in Group 2, a single point behind leaders Pele.
Netting a consolation goal for Conquerors was Delroy Hollison in the 40th minute.
