LONDON, England, CMC – Stoke City boss Tony Pulis says he is thrilled Trinidadian striker Kenwyne Jones has broken his goal-scoring drought and hopes it can be a motivation for next week’s all-important FA Cup semi-final against Bolton.
Jones, who has struggled with off-field problems, scored his first goal since New Year’s Day on Saturday as Stoke went down 3-2 to Tottenham at White Hart Lane.
“I am really pleased for Kenwyne because he has played exceptionally well for us over the last five or six weeks and really showed his class,” Pulis said.
“On his day, he is an absolute top player, and when he plays like that he is as good as anything in the League.
“That goal will push him on now and it has come at a great time for us with the game at Wembley next Sunday.”
A record eight million pounds sterling signing from Sunderland last summer, Jones started the season brightly but suffered a dip in form in recent months.
The lanky 26-year-old said Saturday’s goal – a stunning left-footed volley from just outside the box – was just the culmination of a few weeks of playing well.
