GUATEMALA CITY, CMC – Caribbean football strongman Jack Warner reiterated Sunday that CONCACAF will present a united vote when football’s world governing body, FIFA, elects a new president in June.
CONCACAF, one of the largest voting blocs in FIFA, will prove key as incumbent president Sepp Blatter tries to stave off a challenge from Asian football chief Mohammed Bin Hammam.
“There are two men vying for the position at this time, both with compelling arguments why they should or should not be allowed to be at the head of FIFA,” said Warner, who was recently nominated unopposed to lead CONCACAF for a sixth successive term. “All I will reveal at this time is that CONCACAF will vote as a united block. We are a unified Confederation and we will be
discussing the matter in more detail at the CONCACAF Congress in Miami.”
CONCACAF, the continental governing body for football in North, Central America and the Caribbean, has 35 votes.
Warner arrived here yesterday by private jet for the final of the CONCACAF Under-20 tournament between Costa Rica and Mexico. A government minister, Warner will be joined at the final by Blatter who is currently on a tour of Central American.
