Wolf Warriors clawed their way to victory in the men’s final of the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph (GT&T) sponsored 10/10 Softball Cricket Competition which climaxed at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence last night.
The win netted the victors a cool two million dollars for winning the countrywide competition.
In the female division the Berbice All Stars stormed to the title earning for themselves the one million dollars first prize.
With approximately over 7000 thousand fans, the Wolf warriors hammered Regal XI by 7 wickets in the semi-finals. Celebrity Times earlier in the day had also won their semi-final encounter over the male Berbice All Stars XI.
In the final Wolf Warriors restricted Celebrity Times to an inadequate 87 for 8 with Balran Samarro top scoring with 39.
In reply the Warriors went about their task positively and ended the game with some three overs remaining.
They were led to their eight wicket triumph by skipper Amrit Jairam who top scored with 38.
“The victory was nice and wonderful, we came all the way from West Coast Demerara and came out victorious and I just want to say thanks to GT&T and we look forward for next year.” Jairam told Stabroek Sport afterwards.
On the distaff side Berbice All Stars made easy work of Mike’s Well Women to qualify for the finals against Lusignan Street Warriors who had scored an upset win over the star studded Trophy Stall Angels in their semi-final.
After losing the toss and being asked to bat first Berbice All Stars scored 98 for 4 at the end of their allotted 10 overs with Shemaine Campbell scoring 46 not out.
Returning to field Berbice All Stars held Lusignan Warriors to 86 for 8 off their allotted 10 overs to claim victory. “It’s a great moment for us an we did it because of our team spirit. We just want to thank our fans and sponsors for the support,” stated Shenella Mceen captain of the Berbice All Stars to Stabroek Sport. Following the finals, was the award ceremony and a concert.
