A 77-year-old overseas-based man was shot dead after he was attacked by two bandits this morning on Freeman Street, East La Penitence.
Dead is Benjamin Nurse of Sixth Street, Diamond, East Bank Demerara.
According to an eyewitness, the elderly man was standing in the yard just after 11 am when two men walked up, pulled out guns and demanded that he hand over a gold chain he was wearing.
Nurse put up a struggle and was shot in the left side of his chest.
The men then fled with the piece of jewellery.
Nurse was later pronounced dead at the Georgetown Hospital. Nurse is based in Brooklyn, New York and arrived in the country two weeks ago to tend to his properties.
