President Bharrat Jagdeo Sunday night congratulated the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company (GT&T) on a successful 10/10 softball tournament after bowling the first ball of the final to Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of GT&T, Yog Mahadeo at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence last Sunday evening.
“First of all I wish to congratulate GT&T for the atmosphere that brought together thousands of people from across the country. This competition also serves another useful purpose in bringing people together, it would also help to build the camaraderie that we are known for throughout the region.
“And this just goes to show when we are united as a people and work together we could achieve any feat or goal,” Jagdeo added, during his remarks at the opening ceremony.
Prior to Jagdeo’s remarks Mahadeo had thanked the president for his welcome presence and the other sponsors that invested in the tournament’s success.
“We have seen a lot of integration and a lot of teams coming from communities we don’t know about, we also got the chance to bring talent from the grass root level to the national stage and we just want to say to the fans have fun on behalf of GT&T.
“To our president who has supported us from the start along with our sponsors and managing team I want to say thank you for your support,” Mahadeo added.
Earlier in the day Stabroek Sport caught up with Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Dr. Frank Anthony to get his opinion on the tournament.
“I think it’s great to see so many people coming out to a softball cricket match, now it’s just taking it to another level, it’s great to have seen it reach this far and maybe in the future we could have a regional softball tournament. I just think that it’s a great tournament,” Dr. Anthony stated.
The tournament ended with Wolf Warriors taking the male title while Berbice All Stars took the female version.
