West Indies middle order batsman Ramnaresh Sarwan stroked an unbeaten double century along with a century from Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) partner Vishal Singh to beat Transport Sports Club (TSC) by an innings in the last round of the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) two-day Carib Beer/Heroes Cup first division competition over the weekend.
Playing at Bourda ground GCC took their overnight score from 359-4 to 514-9 with Sarwan retiring on 203 and Singh contributing 121. The two also shared a 284-run partnership for the fourth wicket. Former Guyana youth opener Jeetendra Sookdeo also made heavy work for TSC with 64; Clevon Hyman made 44.
Medium pacer Carl Rambarose took 3-88 while Marc Nicholson had 2-99 for Transport, who made 95 in the first innings. The Thomas Lands-based team, set 416 to win, only mustered 144 in their second innings with Steven Alves making 45, Rambharose (33) and Shawn Massiah (15) were the other top scorers.
Ricardo Jadunauth took 5-49 and captain Leon Johnson had 4-37 bowling his off spin.
At the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) off-spinner Denis Squires snatched 6-39 while Totaram Bishun snared 4-9 as Everest were dismissed for another meagre score in the game. After making 223 and skittling out Everest for 80 in their first innings, DCC began the final day on 34-3 reached 200 with Gajanand Singh following up his first inning century with 95.
Jamal Hinckson was the next highest scorer with 35 as former national under-19 leg-spinner Troy Gonsalves took 3-49 and Christopher Surat 2-19 for Everest. In reply Everest fell for 88 despite 26 from Joseph Perry and 18 from Gonsalves.
Nineteen-year-old left-arm pacer Andre Stoll scored his second century of the match to record 109 against Police at Eve Leary ground against Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC) in the drawn contest. This feat came after 18-year-old Carlos LaRose scored his maiden first division century for MSC.
Stoll hit West Indies under-19 selectee Kwame Crosse for consecutive sixes to reach his second century. Police reached 310-8 in their second innings. Kevin Singh and Jason Heyliger supported with 34 runs each.
Earlier, MSC had resumed on 72-2 replying to Police first innings score of 308 and were dismissed for 232. Crosse, who leaves on Thursday to join the West Indies under-19 team for their tour to Dubai, made 34 while Damien Vantull scored 24. Pacer Jason Heyliger took 3-23, Vishal Jaigobin had 3-70 and Parnell London chipped in with 2-19 for Police.
The next round of the competition is scheduled for this weekend.
