Burglars yesterday hammered a hole through the concrete wall of Techmedia.com Electronics Store on King Street and carted off close to $8 million in cell phones and other electronic gadgets.
When Stabroek News visited the store located between Regent and Robb streets, police ranks were already there conducting investigations.
An employee, Wanita Ramgobin said that the store was secured around 1630 hours on Monday but when she arrived for work around 0830 hours, the store had been ransacked and there was a huge hole in the wall.
She said that after gouging the hole, the perpetrators were able to break away a piece of plywood board that covered the concrete wall.
According to Ramgobin, she immediately closed up the store and contacted the Brickdam Police Station but was told that she had to go there and make a report. After this was done, she added, ranks went to the location and conducted investigations.
She said that the burglars removed approximately 200 cell phones from their boxes, dvd players, mp3 players and other electronics worth close to $8 million. They left behind cell phone accessories.
