A Guyana Post Office Corporation employee and the driver of a vehicle are now in police custody after reporting that the vehicle they were travelling in was robbed by three armed men at the traffic light located at the Railway Embankment and the Ogle Airstrip Road yesterday afternoon.
The gunmen reportedly escaped with the vehicle and other valuables including the firearm of a supernumerary constable who was also in the vehicle at the time of the hold-up.
According to Divisional Commander, Assistant Commissioner, Gavin Primo it was reported that around 17:45 yesterday, as the vehicle was approaching the traffic light, the armed men approached and held up the duo before escaping in the vehicle. He could not say if any money was in the vehicle but indicated that the two had received some postal items from the interior at the Ogle Airport minutes before the robbery.
Stabroek News also understands that the vehicle had also uplifted items from the Clonbrook, Melanie and Beterverwagting Post Offices, all on the East Coast before heading to Ogle.
