A man who admitted to trafficking in a quantity of cannabis was on Tuesday sentenced to a period of imprisonment for three years.
Ameer Sears pleaded guilty to the charge of possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking which stated that on April 10 at Moblissa, Soesdyke-Linden Highway, he had in his possession 78 grams of cannabis.
The man was handed the sentence when he appeared before acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court. Additionally, he was ordered to pay a fine of $30,000.
Meanwhile, in another incident also at Moblissa, Trevor McPherson was sentenced to four years imprisonment for having in his possession 455 grams of cannabis, also for the purpose of trafficking.
McPherson who pleaded guilty to the April 10 charge said that he suffers from asthma and was advised by the doctor to use the substance.
He too was fined $30,000 fine.
His matter was also called before the acting chief magistrate at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
