Huckumchand Dalchand, 44, of Canefield Village, East Canje, was fined $50,000 with an alternative of three months imprisonment which he opted to serve.
Police Corporal Roberto Figueira, prosecuting, said that on Monday the virtual complainant who lived alone secured his home, and proceeded to work. However, shortly afterwards, he received a telephone call from a neighbour who informed him of an intruder on his premises.
On arrival Beepat observed that the padlock which secured the door on the lower flat was open and the thief was already dressed in his red jersey and long blue denim jeans which contained a wallet that had USD$4 and SRD$5. The total value of the items was $7,400.
Dalchand, who by then had discarded his clothes, was arrested and taken to Rose Hall Police Outpost after a policeman had responded to the report.
