Caribbean Container Inc. are the exclusive sponsors of the Guyana Chess Federation (GCF) 2011 Easter Chess Tournament which commences Saturday at the Keishar’s Sports club, Camp and Hadfield Streets.
According to a press release coming from the GCF, all chess players are invited to take part in the seven-round, Swiss System tournament where each player will be allotted a time control of one hour and 30 minutes.
According to the organizers of the tournament recording of moves will be compulsory and all participants are asked to walk with a pen and a tournament-size chess set.
The competition will be FIDE (World Chess Federation) rated, which allows non-rated players to earn FIDE rankings if they are successful against players with FIDE ratings.
The release noted that there are currently less than 10 players with FIDE ratings.
In a simple ceremony yesterday, Company Secretary and Administrative Director of Caribbean Container Inc. Patricia Bacchus handed over the sponsorship cheque and trophies at the company’s head office, Farm, East Bank Demerara to GCF Vice President/Tournament Director Irshad Mohamed.
The senior official pledged her company’s support of efforts being made to promote the intellectual game. Mohamed expressed gratitude at the presentation ceremony to Caribbean Container Inc., for its partnership with the federation.
Registration begins at the tournament venue at 14:00 hours on Saturday for junior chess players and the first round in that category starts at 15:00 hours.
Meanwhile, registration time for senior players is 15:30hrs and their first round starts one hour later.
The fee for adult members is $300 and $200 will be charged for junior members, while for non-members the fee is $800 for seniors and $600 for juniors.
